Performance and driveability
The Tata Punch EV is powered by a 40 kWh battery pack, which is larger than the earlier 35 kWh unit, offering improved performance and efficiency.
Tata states that the new battery is denser, more thermally stable, and better suited for varying climate conditions, enhancing overall reliability.
This setup delivers 127 bhp and 154 Nm of torque, ensuring a responsive and smooth driving experience.
The Punch EV offers an ARAI-certified range of up to 468 km, along with a claimed real-world (C75) range of around 355 km.
Charging is quick and convenient, with a 65 kW DC fast charger capable of charging from 20% to 80% in just 26 minutes. Additionally, a 15-minute quick charge can provide up to 135 km of range.
To enhance driving dynamics, the car features multiple regenerative braking levels controlled via paddle shifters, along with three driving modes—Eco, City, and Sport. Together, these offer up to 12 driving combinations to balance efficiency, performance, and control.

Tata Punch EV Facelift Interior & Exterior Styling
The Tata Punch EV facelift receives subtle design updates, as the previous model already followed Tata’s latest design language. However, the facelift introduces smoother detailing and a refreshed bumper design for a more modern look.
At the front, it gets a revised fascia with split headlamps, sleek LED DRLs, and black cladding with horizontal slats integrated into the bumper, enhancing its SUV appeal.
From the side, the silhouette remains largely unchanged, retaining its familiar stance. It offers a ground clearance of 195 mm, along with black wheel arch cladding and ORVM-mounted turn indicators for added styling.
At the rear, the Punch EV features connected LED tail lamps, along with a rear wiper and roof spoiler, giving it a cleaner and more contemporary design compared to its ICE counterpart.
The Punch EV facelift is available in seven colour options: Fearless Yellow, Bengal Rouge, Caramel, Empowered Oxide, Supernova Copper, Pure Grey, and Pristine White.

Q. Is the Tata Punch EV price in India worth it when the petrol Punch is so much cheaper upfront?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The Punch EV starts around ₹10–15 lakh (ex-showroom) versus the petrol's ₹6–10 lakh — a significant gap. However, for someone charging at home and driving 40–70 km daily, the running cost difference (roughly ₹1.2/km EV vs ₹5–6/km petrol) can recover that gap in 5–6 years. Government FAME subsidies, state EV incentives, and lower insurance (in some states) tighten the payback window further.

Q. Which Punch EV battery option makes more practical sense — the smaller 25 kWh or the larger 35 kWh pack?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
For purely urban commutes under 60 km daily, the 25 kWh pack (claimed ~300 km WLTP) is sufficient and more affordable. The 35 kWh pack (claimed ~421 km) makes sense if you do occasional inter-city travel or don't have easy home charging access. Expert insight: with AC on and at highway speeds, the larger pack's real-world range may hit 300–340 km, so don't plan very long trips without mapping charging stops.

Q. How does the Punch EV's driving experience compare to the regular Punch — does it feel like an upgrade or just different?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The Punch EV feels meaningfully more refined — instant torque makes city driving effortless, cabin noise drops noticeably without an engine, and the regenerative braking adds a fun, connected feel to deceleration. The higher centre of gravity (from the floor-mounted battery) is barely perceptible in everyday driving. For anyone who's driven a petrol Punch, the EV feels like a genuine step up in everyday usability.

Q. Can the Punch EV handle a weekend drive to a hill station or does the charging infrastructure make it too risky?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
Weekend hill station runs are feasible if your route has Tata EV chargers or public DC fast chargers — the Trezor app and PlugShare help plan these. On a steep ghat route, energy consumption can spike and cut real range to 200–250 km on the larger pack. It's doable with planning, but not carefree — buyers who do quarterly 400+ km highway trips might find a petrol or hybrid less stressful for those specific journeys.
By SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
Q. Will maintaining the Punch EV become a problem in Tier-2 cities where EV expertise is still limited?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
Tata has aggressively expanded EV-ready service points, but the depth of training varies — a complex electrical issue may require escalation to a regional hub centre, adding days to turnaround. For routine maintenance (brake pads, tyres, cabin filter), any Tata centre handles it without EV expertise. The main ownership risk in Tier-2 cities isn't cost but repair time if something atypical goes wrong.
