Jeep Compass Engine and Performance
Positives:
The same 168bhp 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine also gets a 4x4 version, but is only offered with a nine-speed automatic.
The nine-speed automatic transmission does a great job of extracting the best output from the engine at highway speeds, thus, making it an accomplished long-distance tourer.
Thanks to the Jeep 4x4 Selec-Terrain traction management system, there are different drive modes such as Auto, Mud, Sand, and Snow modes.
The SUV also benefits from an independent rear suspension setup, Frequency Selective Damping (FSD), and Select Speed Control to manage throttle and braking while descending slopes.
Its steering feels reassuringly hefty and quick enough to dispatch U-turns and parallel parks effortlessly.
Negatives:
There is some noticeable clatter inside the cabin from the diesel engine and some vibration on the steering and dashboard.
Since the nine-speed gearbox is slow to respond at slower speeds, one needs to plan their overtaking manoeuvres.
The ride quality is slightly hard at slow speeds and also when going over harsh potholes and imperfections at highway speeds.
Despite the tall clearance, one must be careful not to scrape the front bumper on steep inclines or hurdles.
The Compass tends to lean through the tight corners due to the high centre of gravity, but it is predictable.

Jeep Compass Convenience and Technology
Positives:
Some of the USPs of the SUV include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and electrically adjustable front seats with a memory function for the driver’s seat.
The all-black cabin along with the multi-layer dashboard feels luxurious and sophisticated with leather inserts.

The SUV also boasts leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, dual-zone automatic AC, tyre pressure monitoring, and a powered tailgate.

There is a 10.2-inch customisable instrumentation and a 10.1-inch HD touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The digital instrumentation is customisable and bright with modern graphics sharing a lot of information.

There is more than sufficient legroom in the second row with a wide seat base, which makes it comfortable for two occupants.
The 438-litre bootspace is adequate to hold multiple bags and the 60:40 split-folding mechanism further improves practicality.
Negatives:
The abundant use of glossy black trim requires one to deal with fingerprint impressions and visible dust regularly.
It will be a bit of a squeeze if the rear bench is expected to fit three healthy-sized adults comfortably.
Who should buy
The Compass is ideal for premium SUV buyers who want a distinctive Jeep badge, authentic off-road capability, and a richly appointed cabin in the ₹20-30 lakh bracket.

Q. Jeep Compass vs Tata Harrier—for a buyer with a ₹25 lakh budget, why choose the Compass when the Harrier offers more space?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The choice is between "Quantity" and "Quality." The Harrier offers more metal for the money, but the Compass offers a vastly superior build, more precise steering, and a sophisticated frequency-selective damping suspension. The Compass feels like a solid, European-style tank. If you value driving dynamics and the premium feel of every button and stitch in the cabin, the Compass is the clear winner.

Q. What are the realistic maintenance costs for a Jeep Compass over 5 years in India?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
Jeep's service intervals are 15,000 km or 1 year. A typical service costs between ₹15,000 and ₹22,000. Over 5 years, budget approximately ₹90,000 to ₹1.1 lakh for scheduled maintenance. While higher than a Hyundai or Tata, it is on par with other premium SUVs like the Volkswagen Tiguan. Owners should note that the Diesel engine requires regular AdBlue (DEF) refills.

Q. Is the 1.4L MultiAir Petrol engine (if buying used) or the current Diesel engine better for a city-heavy user?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
For city-heavy use, the Diesel-Automatic is actually the more relaxed drive. The older 1.4L Petrol was known to be thirsty (6–8 km/l in traffic) and had a bit of lag. The 2.0L Diesel offers better mid-range punch for quick overtakes and delivers a more respectable 10–12 km/l in city conditions, making it the better all-rounder despite the higher initial cost.

Q. Does the Compass's 10.1-inch UConnect system hold up well against the tech-heavy cabins of Korean rivals?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The UConnect 5 system is one of the most fluid and high-resolution screens in the segment. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and the interface is much cleaner and "classier" than the often-cluttered screens in mass-market SUVs. While it might have fewer "gimmicks" (like ambient lighting themes), the hardware quality and sound output (especially with the Alpine system) are superior.

Q. How is the resale value of the Jeep Compass in the Indian used car market currently?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The Compass holds its value reasonably well for a premium SUV, particularly the Diesel 4x4 variants. A well-maintained 3-year-old Compass typically retains 60–65% of its value. However, the brand's premium positioning means the "buyer pool" is smaller than for a Creta or XUV700, so it might take a bit longer to find the right enthusiast buyer who appreciates the Jeep's mechanical depth.
