Q. The Indica eV2's claimed mileage was impressive in its era — what can a buyer realistically expect today from a used example?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The Indica eV2 with the 1.4L DICOR diesel was ARAI-rated at around 25 kmpl when launched, which made it one of the most fuel-efficient cars in India at its time. A used example in good condition today will realistically return 18–21 kmpl in mixed driving — still excellent by any standard. The caveat is engine condition: high-mileage examples with worn injectors or a compromised turbocharger can drop well below that, making a pre-purchase diesel specialist check essential.

Q. How does the Indica eV2's ride and cabin quality hold up — was it ever a comfortable car or always a utilitarian tool?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
Even when new, the Indica eV2's cabin was functional rather than refined — the dashboard plastics were hard, NVH levels were higher than European or Japanese competitors, and the ride, while compliant on Indian roads, was bouncy at highway speeds. For city commuting and short runs, it was comfortable enough; for highway driving with four passengers, the interior noise and seat cushioning became noticeable limitations after 2–3 hours. As a 2026 used buy, these characteristics haven't improved with age.

Q. Does the Tata service network still support the Indica eV2 — or are you on your own with independent mechanics?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
Tata authorised centres have largely wound down genuine parts stocking for the Indica eV2 platform, especially for the DICOR diesel components. The DICOR engine is, however, familiar to virtually every diesel mechanic in India — it was ubiquitous in Indian cabs for years — so independent service access is excellent. The practical service model for an eV2 in 2026 is independent mechanics for routine work and online/specialist suppliers for specific parts, rather than relying on authorised Tata service.

Q. What hidden costs should a buyer of a used Indica eV2 anticipate — beyond the sticker price?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The DICOR turbocharger is the highest-cost single component to watch on a high-mileage eV2 — a replacement can cost ₹18,000–30,000 including labour. Injector cleaning or replacement is another significant spend if the car has been run on inconsistent fuel quality. Budget ₹20,000–40,000 in the first year for a thorough mechanical refresh, and factor in that body rust — especially around the wheel arches and floor pan — is a structural concern on older examples and can be expensive to address properly.
