Tata Altroz Engine and Performance
The Tata Altroz facelift is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine producing 87 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 3,250 rpm.
This engine is offered with three transmission options: a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT, and a 6-speed DCA (dual-clutch automatic).
The 6-speed DCA improves driving comfort, while the auto park lock feature enhances safety by preventing unintended vehicle movement.
The engine remains smooth and refined in normal driving conditions, though minor vibrations may be felt under hard acceleration.
It performs well in city traffic and can comfortably cruise at highway speeds of around 80–100 km/h.
All variants (referred to as Personas) — Smart, Pure, Pure S, Creative, Creative S, Accomplished S, and Accomplished Plus S — are available with this 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine.

Q. The Altroz looks premium, but does the price in India justify what you actually get inside the cabin?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
Altroz price in India ranges from ₹6.6 to ₹11.5 lakh (ex-showroom), and the 5-star Global NCAP rating alone justifies serious consideration — no other hatchback in this range has matched that score. The cabin materials feel genuinely upmarket, the touchscreen is responsive, and the seats hold you well on long drives. If you're stepping up from a budget hatch and want to feel the difference immediately, the Altroz delivers that experience.

Q. Will the Altroz feel sluggish in city traffic, especially in the petrol version without the turbo?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol (86 PS) is adequate but not spirited — highway overtakes need planning, and you'll feel it on steep flyovers with a full load. The turbo-petrol variant (iTurbo, 110 PS) transforms the driving experience completely and is worth the premium for city expressway use. Real-world mileage for the NA petrol settles around 14–17 kmpl in mixed conditions.

Q. How does the Altroz handle long-distance weekend drives — is it genuinely comfortable or just city-optimized?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The Altroz is one of the better long-drive hatchbacks in its segment — the suspension is tuned to absorb undulations well, and the front seats offer good thigh support for 3–4 hour stretches. Wind noise is well-managed up to 100 kmph, though tyre noise creeps in on coarse roads. It's a genuinely well-rounded car, not just a commuter, which makes it a better choice for

Q. Between the Altroz and the Maruti Baleno or Hyundai i20, which one should a serious buyer choose?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The Altroz wins unambiguously on safety with its 5-star NCAP versus Baleno's 2-star — that alone reshapes the conversation for family buyers. The i20 has a stronger feature list in top trims and slightly better infotainment, but Altroz holds the edge in build quality and structural rigidity. If your family travels regularly, the safety gap makes Altroz a harder car to argue against.

Q. What does Altroz ownership actually cost after the warranty period — does Tata's service keep it affordable?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
Scheduled service on the Altroz costs roughly ₹5,000–8,000 per visit, which is in line with the segment. Tata's service network has expanded well across Tier-1 cities; Tier-2 response can be variable. The key long-term watch point is the DCT-like AMT on the turbo variant — it's smoother than standard AMTs, but owners report occasional jerks during slow crawls, and dealer calibration quality can vary.
