Kia Sonet Engine and Performance
The 1.0L turbo petrol with 7-speed DCT is quick and fun. The diesel variant offers best-in-class mileage for high-mileage users.
This 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 118bhp and 172Nm torque. It comes mated to either a six-speed iMT or a seven-speed DCT.
It gets three driving modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport mode.
Regardless of the mode, the engine remains silent and smooth, delivering predictable power and sufficient torque for everyday driving.
Once past 2,500rpm, there's ample mid-range response, making overtaking effortless and ensuring quick progress at highway speeds.
The DCT offers smooth gearshifts, allowing quick responses from the engine, while paddle shifters make manual gear shifts more engaging.
Kia claims an ARAI mileage of 19.2kmpl for the DCT variant of Sonet, which is impressive for a compact SUV.
At highway speeds, the Sonet drives relatively flat over small bumps or undulations and does not lean much around bends.
The well-weighted steering provides precise feedback, inspiring confidence while driving.
The braking feels reassuring as the Sonet is equipped with disc brakes on all wheels.

Q. What is the Kia Sonet price in India and how does it compare to rivals?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The Kia Sonet price in India starts at around ₹7.99 lakh and tops out near ₹15.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Against the Hyundai Venue and Maruti Brezza, the Sonet punches above its price with features usually found in larger SUVs — panoramic sunroof, ADAS, and diesel-automatic.

Q. What mileage does the Kia Sonet deliver in everyday driving?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol gives 16–18 km/l in mixed driving. The 1.0L turbo-petrol gets about 14–16 km/l, while the 1.5L diesel is the champion at 20–23 km/l, especially on highway runs. For budget-conscious daily commuters, the diesel is excellent.

Q. How does the 1.0L turbo-petrol Sonet feel to drive in daily city traffic?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
Punchy and responsive — 120 bhp from a 1.0L turbo feels lively in city traffic. The 7-speed DCT (in iMT or DCT variants) keeps things smooth in stop-and-go conditions. It's definitely the most entertaining engine option in the Sonet lineup.

Q. What safety features does the Kia Sonet offer — is it safe for families?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The Sonet gets 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, rear disc brakes, and ADAS (lane keep assist, forward collision warning) on the X Line and HTX+ variants. It scored well in Global NCAP tests, making it a reassuringly safe choice for family use.

Q. What features make the top Kia Sonet variant stand out in its segment?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The HTX+ and X Line get a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Bose sound system, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, 360-degree camera, and a smartwatch connected car feature. For a sub-16 lakh SUV, the technology and feature count is exceptional.

Q. Is the Kia Sonet comfortable on longer drives or mainly for city use?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
It handles highway stretches reasonably well, but the tightly tuned suspension can feel jiggly on rough patches. For city use it's excellent. On longer trips over 3 hours, the seat comfort is decent but the ride firmness might fatigue passengers more than a Creta or Seltos.
