Renault Duster (2026) Latest Updates
- •
New 3rd-generation Renault Duster launched globally in 2024 — significantly more premium than the outgoing Duster.
- •
India launch expected in 2025–26; waiting period will be announced at launch.
- •
New Duster comes with a 1.2L turbocharged petrol with mild hybrid and full hybrid options globally.
Renault Duster Engine and Performance
The Duster 2026 features a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, dubbed Turbo TCe 160 by Renault, delivering 160bhp of power and 280Nm of torque.
This powertrain comes equipped with a six-speed manual or DCT transmission options for a stronger highway driving experience. We tested the manual version.
Being a four-cylinder turbo engine, it's extremely refined with no vibrations at idle or low speed, and the clutch also feels light with good travel.
It gets two driving modes, Eco and Comfort. Eco softens the throttle while comfort works greatly across city and highway conditions. It also adjusts the steering weight for further engagement.
Renault Duster Driving Experience & Ride Quality
But the real excitement begins when the Duster is pushed harder. The SUV truly comes alive with a satisfying rumble, as the turbocharger delivers a strong kick at higher revs. The power delivery feels linear and consistent, making acceleration predictable yet thrilling.
The manual gearbox adds to the driving pleasure, offering smooth and precise shifts. Combined with refined performance and strong mid-to-high range power, the Duster delivers an engaging experience that truly appeals to driving enthusiasts.
At lower speeds in city conditions, the suspension feels slightly firm. However, it never becomes uncomfortable—instead, it provides a sense of solid road feedback. This setup proves beneficial on rough and uneven roads, where the Duster maintains stability and composure with ease.
When tackling twisty roads or elevation changes, the SUV holds its line confidently. The handling feels planted and controlled, allowing drivers to enjoy corners without hesitation.
In terms of refinement, NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) levels are well managed. Vibrations are minimal and only noticeable at higher revs, while road and wind noise remain effectively controlled, ensuring a comfortable cabin experience.

Q. The new-generation Renault Duster 2026 returns with hybrid technology — does this actually change the ownership experience meaningfully for Indian buyers?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The 2026 Duster's mild-hybrid or full-hybrid powertrain (depending on variant) delivers tangible benefits in city driving — smoother stop-start operation, regenerative braking that adds free range, and a quieter low-speed experience that petrol-only rivals can't match. The interior has been substantially upgraded over the outgoing generation with a modern floating touchscreen and improved material quality. For a buyer who wanted the old Duster's off-road confidence with modern tech efficiency, the 2026 generation delivers both simultaneously — a genuine improvement rather than just a refresh.

Q. At the Renault Duster 2026 price in India, does the new-generation model offer enough over the old Duster to justify stretching the budget over a used outgoing version?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The 2026 Duster commands a premium over the outgoing model, and it earns most of it — the new platform, hybrid powertrain, ADAS suite, and upgraded interior are meaningful improvements rather than cosmetic changes. If the budget allows, the new model's superior fuel economy (hybrid benefit) and modern safety features create a compelling case over a well-discounted old Duster. The only scenario where the old Duster wins is budget constraints — a used outgoing model with proven reliability at Rs 6–8 lakh is still a sharp value.

Q. How does the 2026 Duster's hybrid system improve real-world mileage over the outgoing model — does it make a noticeable difference in daily city use?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The 2026 Duster's hybrid efficiency improvements are most pronounced in city driving — expect 18–20 km/l in urban conditions versus the old Duster's 13–15 km/l petrol, a meaningful 30–40% improvement that translates directly into lower monthly fuel bills. Highway mileage improvement is less dramatic at 20–22 km/l, where internal combustion efficiency dominates regardless of hybrid assist. For a buyer doing primarily city commuting, the hybrid system pays back its premium through fuel savings within 3–4 years for typical Indian mileages.

Q. 2026 Duster vs Hyundai Creta — with Renault's comeback model now packing hybrid tech, does it seriously challenge India's compact SUV king?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The 2026 Duster's hybrid efficiency and Renault's improved safety equipment close the gap with the Creta significantly. The Creta still leads on resale value, service network density, and feature breadth at each price point. The 2026 Duster counters with genuine off-road capability (best-in-class ground clearance and suspension travel) and the hybrid economy advantage in city use. For buyers who take their SUV off paved roads — hill stations, forest trails, village terrain — the Duster's capability superiority is decisive; pure urban buyers will still find the Creta's package more rounded.

Q. Is Renault's service infrastructure in India ready to support the 2026 Duster's hybrid components reliably — what should buyers know before committing?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
Renault India has trained hybrid-specific technicians at its service centres ahead of the 2026 Duster's launch, and the hybrid system's battery warranty covers 8 years/1,60,000 km — structurally protecting the most expensive component. The concern for buyers outside the top 10–12 cities is whether their nearest Renault centre has hybrid-certified technicians and diagnostic equipment. Before purchase, verify this specifically at your local dealership; do not assume a Renault centre automatically has hybrid capability. In covered cities, ownership confidence is justified
