Q. Is a used Mahindra Quanto still worth buying in 2026, or is it too outdated to consider?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The Quanto (discontinued 2018) was India's first 7-seat compact SUV when launched in 2012, but by current standards its 1.5L mFalcon diesel with 63 bhp feels underpowered and the third-row jump seats are minimal. At ₹2–5 lakh used, it's inexpensive, but the very limited third-row space (barely adequate for children) and the outdated safety kit make it hard to recommend for a family as a primary vehicle in 2026. The Bolero Neo provides similar pricing with a more usable proposition.

Q. What mileage does the Mahindra Quanto's diesel engine return in Indian city conditions?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The 1.5L mFalcon diesel returns 16–18 km/l on highways and 13–15 km/l in Indian city conditions — respectable numbers that remain competitive even against current hatchbacks. The small-displacement diesel's frugality was always the Quanto's strong card, and a well-maintained example still delivers these figures. For a cost-conscious buyer who wants a compact diesel vehicle primarily for city commuting, the Quanto's fuel economy is its most enduring appeal.

Q. How does the Quanto handle Indian roads — is the ride quality acceptable for a compact SUV?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The Quanto's rear suspension is relatively stiff, particularly noticeable in the cramped third-row seats. For front and second-row passengers, the ride is acceptable on maintained roads. The compact dimensions (3.9m length) make it nimble in traffic and easy to park — actually better than many current compact SUVs in this regard. As a city-focused vehicle for driver and one or two regular passengers, it's perfectly practical; as a family vehicle with the third row in use, it's a compromise.

Q. Should a buyer considering a Quanto look at a used Mahindra TUV300 or Bolero Neo instead at similar price points?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
In 2026, both the TUV300 and Bolero Neo offer better propositions than the Quanto at similar or slightly higher used prices. The TUV300 has better performance, a more practical 3rd row, and more features. The Bolero Neo offers a monocoque ride with modern features. The Quanto's main appeal is its extremely low used price — if your budget cap is ₹3 lakh and you need diesel economy, it fills a gap. For any flexibility in budget, either alternative is a meaningfully better purchase.

Q. What maintenance costs does a Quanto owner face, and how is parts availability for a discontinued model?
SIX BUY AND SELL TEAM • Apr 2026
The Quanto shares drivetrain components with several other Mahindra models — the 1.5L mFalcon engine and transmission are not unique to the Quanto, keeping parts availability reasonable through the Mahindra aftermarket network. Body-specific parts like bumpers and tail-lights are harder to source but most panel beaters can fabricate repairs. Annual service costs run ₹10,000–16,000. The main financial risk on a high-mileage Quanto is the ECU and electrical system — have these checked professionally before purchase.
